Basic French Toast





Serves 4



Ingredients

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 eggs
1/4 cup milk (non-dairy works too)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-4 tablespoons butter
8 slices challah, brioche, or your favorite bread (cinnamon is my favorite!)

For serving: 
1/2 cup maple syrup or honey, warmed
Powdered sugar
Fruit (berries and bananas are my favorite!)


Directions
In a shallow bowl that can fit your bread slices, mix cinnamon, nutmeg, eggs, milk, and vanilla. Sometimes I will make batter in smaller batches, since different kinds of bread will soak up the batter more or less.

In a 10-inch or 12-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Dip bread in egg mixture, completely coating each slice. Add slices in batches to the pan and fry until golden brown, then flip to cook the other side. Serve warm with syrup, powdered sugar, and fruit of your choice.
